Dervin is a comic I have been doing since I was a sophomore in college. (Currently, I am deeply ensconced in ‘middle age’)

The strip came about when a friend of mine and I were looking at a comic in the school paper and we thought, ‘Hey,we can do this!’.  So, we started brain-storming ideas and I started drawing.  The first three frames had an obvious progression but when it came time to write something that tied everything together and was funny, we were stumped.

I then came up with the idea that we make the last frame have absolutely nothing to do with anything.  We then showed it to our friends and presented it as if we thought it was funny.  As they read each strip, trying not to hurt our feelings, we were splitting a guy laughing ourselves.

After a few of these, people started asking if there were others and that is when Dervin sort of evolved beyond the ‘Candid Camera’ strip into its own.

There is still a lot of fun in showing Dervin to your friends, raving about how funny and clever the strip is and then dealing with their genuine confusion.

No, I do not think they are all the things that are indicated by the categories or tags on this site, but Dervin does.
